Eh, sorry but this isn't really news. The latest internal build changes all the time and the rest of the article is general information about Windows 8's development that we knew from early on.

8030 was two days ago, today's build is probably 8032.

That's not really a full tag, BBBB.B.YYMMDD-TTTT is just: B=build number, date, time (24 hour). My understanding is the build numbers increase one per day so the only thing we learned from this is the time on the clock .

As insignificant as it is, it also points out the perhaps not 100% obvious fact that a lot of their code is untested and is breaking application compatibility fairly easily. Windows 7 builds were much more stable than these ones, but I suppose that is to be expected since it's their "Major Change" on their release cycle vs the minor change we got with Windows 7, which wasn't so minor IMO.

I don't think so. They still need a week or two of testing the build and ensuring everything is working as expected (to make sure that a bsod style Windows 98 will happen in their presention).

well since they've redesigned the BSOD, it would be appropriate to show it to the public...

i want to see BSOD during the Build conference demonstration of Windows 8. Steve never expected that.

How do people find out the latest build? Are any of you guys leakers? I just wanted to know since im new and all....

It's *approximately* one per day for a start. They also have build jumps every now and then, and public builds are rarely new.

See 6801 - it was relatively old at the time, being little more than a recompile of a build at least a month old from what I recall.

I have a feeling that Beta will be either 8100 or even 8200, depending on what build number they are currently upto. Either way, we will have to wait and see.

My bet is on build 8100

So what build is pre-beta going to be?

According to a polish website that the public beta of Windows 8 Build number will be 8100, and it will be bumped from 808X or 809X. The article by Softpedia can be found here. I don't know how reliable this site is but my bet is 8100 too, it seems logical to me.

Random numbers made out of the air:
8100 - Beta 1
8300 - Beta 2
8500 - RC1
8700 - RC2
8800 - RTM

How does that sound? Unless MS confirmed that the official "Beta 1" is to be released in September/October and not later, 8100 might not even be beta 1. MS would probably let Windows 8 branch out, as done previously with vista and 7. That would happen before beta 1, so if 8100 is beta 1, 8201 would be compiled at least 2 weeks before 8100.

As far as I know there will be only one beta and one release candidate, the beta will be this September and the release candidate early next year. Keep in mind that Windows 8 needs to be in RTM stage in April 2012, unless Microsoft changes their mind and gets delayed.

Beta - September 2011
RC - Late spring - early summer 2012
RTM - Fall 2012

Yes indeed I mean 2012, it was just a typo and now it's fixed so that it doesn't make anybody confused.
I don't care when Windows 8 will be released, I have enough of patience. When the beta will come out everything will be unlocked, and it will be fully functional.
