It has been a few weeks since the last Windows 8 image has leaked but that streak has come to an end thanks to @sp3ciali5t on Twitter. The latest image shows that Microsoft will be working hard to fight piracy in Windows 8 much like it has in previous versions of its popular OS.

The screen shows the action status of your OS, the current edition, activation date, and if the software on your PC is genuine or not. While the page may appear simple, if Microsoft is willing to educate consumers on this part of the OS, they may be able to help prevent PCs sold with counterfeit software.

Not much else is shown on this image but does show that there are copies of Windows 8 floating outside the walls of Microsoft. Windows 8 is expected to enter beta, possibly as soon as this fall, with OEM availability in late 2012 and possible retail availability in January 2013.

The new Genuine center looks very interesting. Also, Wi-Fi Connection window has been improved as well as Instalation of USB devices.

Windows 8 will be very difficult to activate with illegal methods. Bad news to the users with an illegal copy of Windows.

Goodbye!

I'd like to know what Microsoft is going to implement next to fight piracy, and how long it will take to crack it...
It's an action-reaction thing... xd

The issue here is that Windows has always been hacked activation wise its all a matter of time before someone takes a look at it.

I'm going to give Windows 8 about 2 weeks before its hacked for the activation...

Windows 7/8. Oh and a bit XP.
Microsoft will kill piracy exept if pirates find a way to counter-attack.

Yeah with what's been already been outed in terms of OA3.0 & possibly being tied with EFI, it won't be an easy ride for pirates but as always someone will find a way.

I like this. I've always bought my copies of Windows, and im glad to see they are clamping down on pirates (no genuine center and prevention on bios hacks), timebombs are only really helpful on beta's.

Considering how many times Microsoft has implemented "new ways of stopping piracy", and has failed thanks to hackers, I'm pretty sure this new type of activation will be exploited in some way and allow people to potentially pirate it. There will always be piracy in one form or another no matter what (not that I am for piracy ;))

This. Give or take. While all my copies of Windows are legit these days, and so I don't really care for activation cracks, ultimately, Any system that has to differentiate between legit and pirate users will be relatively simple to crack, because ultimately, if a pirate ensures that the same information provided to the genuine system is the same information a legit user would provide, the system will always allow the pirate user access.

Not to mention since the EU had MS cripple it's anti-piracy to just displaying notices and turning the wallpaper black, it's all kind of irrelevant anyway.

If Microsoft's products were cheaper, more people would buy them and to have more profit. Look at Apple.

Er... look again and you'll find it's more expensive.

software might be cheaper, but not the hardware you need to run it from...
On a side note, the genuine center is present in the Windows 8 build with IE10 on ARM from Mix.

The only thing I'm hoping is that they make this OS a lot cheaper. Maybe like the $30 Mac OS X Snow Leopard XP.

You know that you're talking about MS right?

The "cheapest" way to get it will be to buy a new computer/laptop with it installed.
