Microsoft announced the release date of Windows 8, it will be available on October 26th, 2012.

Quote:
…October 26th, 2012! That’s right! Just a few minutes ago, Steven Sinofsky announced at Microsoft’s annual sales meeting that customers will be able to get Windows 8 – whether in upgrade fashion or on a new PC – starting on October 26th. Earlier this month at the Microsoft Worldwide Partner Conference, Tami Reller told attendees Windows 8 would be available in October. But now everyone has a specific date to mark on their calendars. It’s on mine!

I remember that Windows release dates usually get missed.

12.65GB for a Windows 8 installation? Good luck with that while keeping it functional.

Would it not make more sense to install windows 8 on the ssd so its faster and use the 12GB partition for storage?
btw the MINIMUM space needed for windows 8 is 16GB for 32bit, 20GB for 64.

Damn straight. Your OS does nothing of importance. Nor does it contain all the libraries that every single application utilises. I laugh at all these fools, myself included, who don't follow your wisdom and install their OS to their slowest drive.

For someone who supposedly has a PhD, you don't seem to understand basic concepts such as slower drives affecting OS speeds. SSDs should always be used as the OS drive whilst a slower HDD can be used for storage. Fair enough games, so long as you have two SSDs. I would never put Steam on the same SSD as my Windows installation.

Damn your steam library must be small to fit it on a 20GB drive too!

Dude, everyone is laughing at you because 1. You think the OS goes on the slower drive which is just flat wrong and 2. You're gonna try to install Win8 to a partition that is simply TOO SMALL unless you use SuperTools SuperOSFitter v3.1.

On another note, it's nice to see a set-in-stone release date that MS won't *miss* for once >_>

Well now that we have a release date, I now have a reason to start saving up some money. I messed around with Windows 8 for a day or two and liked it better than 7 look-wise and functionality-wise, so why not?

well if many people are laughing at me i dont see it... its just common sense to save your files for the faster drive. sys files are non essential other than keeping your computer working. some are loaded in cache.

Not everyone is laughing at you M8. Several members are offering good advice. But, after 66 posts, I think you know the score on this site - one step out of line and you will be flamed by the "I know better" brigade
