Forum rules

Please read the following rules before posting a download request in this area:

1. Don't post a request if you have under 10 posts as stated on the front page. If you do anyway, it will be deleted without further notice. This also applies to other members: If you see a request by someone with less than 10 posts and it hasn't been deleted yet, please don't reply to it.
2. Don't request for warez or any copyrighted software. Only betas (no matter how old or new) and finals of operating systems and applications that are at least 10 years old and therefore classified as abandonware are allowed to be uploaded to and shared on the BetaArchive FTP server.
3. If you have your own FTP server where you'd like other members to upload what you're looking for to, please don't post its login details in any open forum as that will probably lead to abuse. Post the login details in the Private Servers section instead.
4. Check that we don't already have the file on our FTP servers. If you don't have access to the FTP servers then ask someone who has (a moderator for example).

I'm looking for the Live Sync Wave 3 installer (not the Live Sync Wave 4 beta). I googled for it quite a bit, but it seems every site is linking to the now gone sync.live.com and I cant find a mirror of the installer.

But it's still an "RTM" product.

I don't see a problem as long as it's freeware...

Seems like I misunderstood that rule.
Anyway, this has been superseeded by Windows Live Mesh.
The Wayback machine hasn't got it archived. I'm afraid I can't help.

That was my personal opinion, I don't know the exact rule on this either... :/ So don't take it for granted, but considering it's a free product you can't really pirate it so I don't think anything could be wrong with posting links here.

Over the last few days Beta Archive has got a lot more confusing in terms of rules...

I have the Windows Live Mesh client (part of the Live Essentials 2011 aka Wave 4), but I want to check out some things from the previous release. It's a shame nobody's archiving all these small nifty MS tools on a regular basis.

Nevermind. I found it: http://messengergeek.wordpress.com/2008 ... lications/
It doesn't work anymore - it fails at signing-in.

it is illegal to mirror microsofts software, free or not! many places got busted for sharing windows 8 rp even though it was publicly released... id say no!

No, warez is the sharing of a closed source product. So CNET is going to get shutdown for hosting FREE Microsoft programs? I don't think so.

No, warez is what we call products that are commercial, i.e sold for money and then illegally shared, cracked or in any other way not paid for but still in use.

If it's a freeware program (if the author never charged money for it) then it's not warez, it's freeware. Of course it may still be illegal (depending on the country laws) to share it on your own site (check the authors licenses) but it's still freeware and free for you to use. May I remind you that most freeware IS closed source since they are most often coded and compiled without providing the source code. And open source can still be warez as well (some linux distributions etc) if the distribution comes with a special license or is being sold in stores without the opportunity to download or compile the product in its full version.

Either way, I don't see a problem linking to freeware as long as it is really freeware, i.e not sold anywhere and given for free on the net by the author of the software (in this case Microsoft). WLM for example is freeware, so is DirectX and these comes on tons of shareware CDs etc that are bundled with magazines. And you can find them on tons of legit shareware and download sites all over the net as well, outside Microsofts servers.
