Forum rules

Please read the following rules before posting a download request in this area:

1. Don't post a request if you have under 10 posts as stated on the front page. If you do anyway, it will be deleted without further notice. This also applies to other members: If you see a request by someone with less than 10 posts and it hasn't been deleted yet, please don't reply to it.
2. Don't request for warez or any copyrighted software. Only betas (no matter how old or new) and finals of operating systems and applications that are at least 10 years old and therefore classified as abandonware are allowed to be uploaded to and shared on the BetaArchive FTP server.
3. If you have your own FTP server where you'd like other members to upload what you're looking for to, please don't post its login details in any open forum as that will probably lead to abuse. Post the login details in the Private Servers section instead.
4. Check that we don't already have the file on our FTP servers. If you don't have access to the FTP servers then ask someone who has (a moderator for example).

Hi people,

The ISO for Windows ME RTM OEM English in the FTP server is home made. It has a custom bootable disk image that has been merged into the ISO. Also, the file dates say it's been accessed in the year 2006. The original from Microsoft has a "last accessed" date in the year 2000.

The contents of the bootable disk image are different from the original. (Files like io.sys and command.com are different in size and binary contents).

Could it be possible to get an ISO made from an original OEM disc that has not been adulterated??

PS: I have an original OEM disc of Windows ME, but only for Spanish language. I'm looking for the English one!

Thanks a million!!

Well an "original" ISO is impossible to get as Microsoft only gave out EXE versions on MSDN; I have one or used to have one. However, the ISO is not supposed to keep accessed dates, only modified.

An ISO made from an original disc would be enough for me.

I'm asking this because the ISO in the FTP server is VERY VERY adulterated!! There are entire folders missing and a lot of the files are different.

Also, the size is extremely different. A proper OEM ISO should be around 500 MiB in size, but the one on the FTP server is only 383 MiB !!

PS: The "accessed dates" I refer to can be seen by extracting the "Bootable_1.44M.img" file from the [BOOT] folder with 7-Zip. Then use WinImage to open the "Bootable_1.44M.img" file. Right click on any file and select "File Properties". You'll find the File Accessed date there.

I uploaded the English DELL OEM version, not bootable, though I'm not sure about file dates... You can check once (if) mrpijey releases it... ;)

I bought an upgrade version on ebay once. It's not OEM through.

@DeFacto could you check your copy to see if it's BIOS-Locked? My OEM WinMe disk is from Dell and has it.

Hi people,

I've spent a few hours googling and found two ISOs that seem to be correct. One is found in piratebay and the other is in winworldpc site.

The hashes are different, but the contents are binarly identical. I've extracted the bootable disk image and it's also identical in both of them.

It seems to be a generic OEM version (it's not locked to any particular manufacturer).

I cannot vouch for their authenticity, but they sure look MUCH MUCH better than the version currently on the FTP server.

Should I upload them?

Yes, upload it. Also include a readme explaining the differences and advantages of the proper version, so mrpijey will know what to do with it... ;)
