I tested the 1.5 pre gold avaliable on the FTP online. Apparently it is almost identical to 1.00 in exes, but it has unfinished maps and only a few maps, with minor differences, also it has issues with certain screen resolutions like 1440x900, and will give an error box saying that a file is missing.

Great, thanks for invalidating all my efforts to not have the game ruined for me. I've been avoiding everything since the initial E3 trailer. Next time, use spoiler tags

I can only hope that Bungie is working on a Marathon continuation or prequel at this point. Hell, they could be working on a game to blow H4 out of the water, given how secretive they are about their development of games. Halo as a franchise is done. The only good thing that came about after Halo 3 was the anniversary edition. Everything else seems to be very lackluster and pushed out before completion. DLC DLC DLC DLC. Ugh.

You should now add Halo 4 to the list of Halo games. Halo 4 beta has been released to MS employees/review sites a while ago.
Halo 4 | Xbox 360 | Multiplayer Beta[Build:?] | A multiplayer beta that has been released to MS employees and review sites. | Only few people have a leaked copy.

So there is nothing Public before the Halo Combat Evolved Xbox Retail?
I'll have a dig around, I'm pretty sure someone sent me a pre-release H:CE xbe before
Here's a H4 buildtag too: 14064.12.05.05.1011.beta, built May 5 2012 10:36:15, "Halo 4 Connect Beta" according to the xex, though I'm not really sure. Original exe filename is midnight_cache_release.exe, and with so many refs to "midnight" in the xex itself I'd guess that's H4's codename.
I've made a forceloader for this build already, but sadly have no maps to use/test it

Accordingly to the new security arrangements for the Xbox 720, I think Microsoft and 343 would be very careful with a halo 4 beta, thus a leaked version would be much more interesting.

Leak would be almost impossible as far as I can tell in house testing as been happening for the past few months. Its only been handed out to a few people and is probably loaded onto the consoles that its being developed on. I say probably cause I can't say concretely that is the case.

The question is, if the the pre-version runs on an ordinary Xbox 360 console. 343 Industries uses Dev Kits and they are really hard to get. Either this dev kit or a jtaged console is needed to run it. As far as I know only these consoles can run unsigned code. I think it's almost impossible to run a leaked Halo 4 on a normal 360.

A dev kit would be a win-win situation^^ You can run unsigned code without any restrictions, add homebrew software and you have access to a special Xbox LIVE called "Partner.NET". Every item ( games, DLCs, etc ) is free, you have unlimited Microsoft Points and you can also find abandoned games like Alpha/Beta builds or PR Demos. But it's almost impossible to get one of these dev kits, sometimes you find one on eBay but the price is pretty high. About 1000 dollars. Does anybody have such a console?

I read some where that Microsoft has a policy were a developer has to throw away their dev kits once a game has shipped (not sure how true this is, would seem strange to throw away hardware, and I can't remember the source). Usually dev kits are in abundance around the fall, when all those AAA games come out, so it seems like it would make sense.

Throwing hardware away would be absolutely stupid but I think Microsoft is capable of making such a policy. But in fact none of these protective measures are strong enough to prevent a leak or get an internal view.
