Right now I just got rejected for Advanced Membership, and that must be because my posts are not contributing. Though I've alreay had 30+ posts, there aren't enough "contributing posts" for me.

This time I am really puzzled at how to contribute. Nobody wants to be permanently banned, and neither do I. Hope I can have a better result next time when applying for it, so that it would be great for me to have some advice.

---Regards, PlyrStar93.

A contributing post is one that fits into the following categories:

- Topical discussion
- Beta news
- Technology news
- Continuing or adding to a current topic
- Starting an interesting topic of your own

If you have 30 posts it dosent mean they are all contributing.

Look at me I have like 200+ posts and half of them are not contributing!

As a general rule, PlyrStar, it only counts as contributing if you add new information. Simply agreeing with what someone else said or saying "thanks" or whatever isn't contributing. Asking a question is, though. Go back over your posts and see how many ask a valid question or add new information.

Not sure if Andy is more strict on this subject now, I got approved on my first try with 10-15 posts... Not all were/are contributing.

But anyway, you can raise you CP count by posting:
-Answers to questions (-> support forums)
-Offers of betas and abandonware (-> Servers forums)
-Tutorials (-> Tutorials forum)

Just a few examples of the places in which you can easily make contributing posts. ;)

If you have knowledge in a particular subject and it's been asked about, it's even easier to contribute simply by sharing relevant information on that thread, pertaining to the OP's request/whatever.

I'm sure you're not a bad person, but these rules are here to prevent annoying, useless people from having unworthy access, so you just have to bear with it. :)

Well, I would appreciate everyone's replies above. The problem seems to be quite simple now--Before applying I had read the guidelines again and again ,and tried my best to avoid simple "thanking" posts and etc. After more than 30 posts I consider myself should have already got 10 contributing posts, yet when it comes to Admin, I don't have that adequate number indeed. I will adopt all the advice about how to contribute.

There are some beta/abandonware OS in one of my external HDDs, yet they all come from Internet, so perhaps they should be on the FTP already (just guessing, as there are more than 3TB of repositories, though I don't have access to it). Hope I could find some other old & interesting stuff in my disks.

Then, it would be nice to try answering questions and doing technical discussions or sharing information and news. Maybe I shouldn't have been too hurried of advanced membership, if it's more strict on the subject. This wouldn't be too difficult to me, so I will countribute of my best.

If you have anything that resembles a beta or a piece of abandonware, please post the details here and we'll see if it's already in our collection or not. You never know what you might find... ;)

Honestly I don't blame him, I also got a tad puzzled when it came to that.

I don't understand why is that? I don't think my posts were too contributing.. I applied when I had like 18 posts.. Got accepted. Unlike many people's complaints, mine was approved in just 2-3 days..

I do think since we Mods have been able to approve applications as well, it has introduced a degree of variability. Some staff members are stricter than others (for reference, I think Andy was probably more open to giving members the benefit of the doubt in the case of questionable/borderline posts than some mods) and its sort of luck of the draw as to whether you get in or not tbh.

Back in the day, I got in on 11 posts, which would have probably been rejected today.

I remember applying when I had like 20 posts... I didn't get in until the second try I think. *hehe*

I would love to join the Advanced Members group, sent my request days ago, but I didn't get an answer, would it be positive or negative... Is it possible for a Staff member to take a look? :)

Congrats into making the Advanced members group ^^

Edit: Also, It does take a few days for staff to review it.

Probably there will not be a PM sent if you get accepted to Advanced Membership - that's what happened to me. And I checked the online users, finding my name turned red, then got to know I'm accepted.
However, if you are rejected, a PM stating the reason of denial would be sent.

Now, congratulations, you are accepted. :D

Interesting that theres such variety... i suppose theres much to be said about the human element in these things... still, cant help but wonder if theres a better way to be doing these things

As you can see I still ahve that black username at this time, but it's understandable why it could take so much. THis site grows every day, and there is only so much Addy can do to keep the FTP running smoothly.

I believe mrpijey runs the FTP, AKA the other administrator. And most of the time the Moderators handle the Advanced membership requests. ^^

perhaps there needs to be a dedicated and well trained staff whose primary job it is to handle membership requests?
