I pulled my old SE FD/HD out of the closet. My sister used it for college and sinse it has just been collecting for dust. But it used to work great. So all of a sudden not sure what happened. If it was never taken apart how could it die. Not electronics savy. It could die just sitting around doing nothing. Or perhaps I have the wrong power cord. I can't find the white one. So used a black one to test. But no sparks or noise or anything. Not even a light on the hdd. So probably nothing broke. Was already dead probably. Or do I have to have a special apple branded se ac adapter cord. Would be good to see it working again. So is it dead or am I not doing something right.

Or maybe dead pram battery.

I had a similar problem with a macintosh color classic. Try to plug in the power cable, and let it sit overnight and then try to turn it on. It helped me.

You mean plug it into the wall overnight and let it sit. Seems strange but I'll try that.

I tried everything. Turning it upside down. Hitting it. Slapping it nothing. I just plugged it in. And nothing. No sound. Then I jiggled the switch a few times and to my shock it turned on. I was so surprised. But it blinked and won't boot. So Ii turned it off and on again. Now it boots. 13mb used and 13mb available. To bad I have no keybaord. But at least I got an apple II adb mouse at my goodwill store for 2 dollars. Works well for the SE. Was able to navigate windows at least and take pics with my cellphone. So cool. I'll show you some in a few. Reet is my sister by the way.

Check the caps on the motherboard, or you might have something like this:

I've seen macs have cap problems before, sounds like yours might be going soon.

It's weird it did reboot once in the middle of using it today. But it can't be caps. Cuz even back in the day it was iffy always. So caps can't be bad for 22 years. But it still works surprisingly. Or I can ebay it. But not sure what its worth.

Look at the caps on the motherboard, if they are bulging it might be getting worse. Also, the classic Mac OS was always iffy.

The odds of frying something by opening the case are about the odds of shocking yourself while holding a 9v battery, not very great.

If you do have leaking caps you risk wrecking the entire system as caps have to do with power, and power runs everything.

When you do get the thing opened up, MAKE SURE YOU DISCHARGE THE CRT BEFORE DOING ANYTHING ELSE! CRTs have more than enough power running through them to be lethal if you get shocked by them, and they have a tendency to hold voltage/current even after being unplugged.

LCDs don't need discharging. As for discharging a CRT, here's a good, simple guide on how to do that: http://www.wikihow.com/Discharge-a-CRT-Monitor
