In the past, I've always enjoyed a jailbroken iPhone but after upgrading recently this past May to iOS 4.3.3, I jailbroke my phone with redsn0w 0.9.6rc and my phone got bricked! Why (and how) do jailbroken iPhones get bricked? It makes me mad to have an iPhone in perfect condition that I can't use because it's bricked :x

Bricked? Can't you restore it in DFU mode?

Is the Phone even turning on?

I got a 3GS, tried jailbreaking once before and it never would acquire cell signal. I was lucky and just restored it in iTunes. My phone is about a year old, not one scratch on it anywhere, and I would probably freak if my phone bricked. Always do homework before jailbreaking any kind of device.

you can try to connect your iPhone to your PC, while trying to hold home+power button. if you hear any plugged in device sound by windows, then you're lucky enough. if you have restored but still can't see anything then your iPhone may have hardware issues (ex:display issue)

Plug your phone into your computer while holding just the home button. This will force it into restore mode.

Download iOS 4.3.3 for the device you have. (save file to desk top) Just do a google search for it.
Start itunes
put phone into DFU mode hold power button for 3 sec.
while still holding the power button press and hold the home button for 10 sec.
release the power button but still keep pressing the home button for 10 sec.
itunes should now say the iphone is in recovery mode (screen should be black on phone) and need to be restored. click ok
itunes should now show a restore button
hold the shift key while clicking the restore button.
that will open a window to allow you to use the .iswp file you downloaded before
start the restore process

if you need any other help let me know.

i've been with the jailbreak scene/community since OS 1.1.3 on the first gen iPhone. What everyone is saying is correct DFU and a restore should help you. However unless your SHSH was backed up and your hosts file is modified - it won't work because Apple isn't signing for that OS anymore. 4.3.5 is the latest. If you do have an SHSH backup and your hosts file modified:
-Plug iPhone into computer
-Hold down Power and Home for 10 seconds
-Release Power and continue holding Home for 10 seconds (or until iTunes says it detected an iPhone in recovery mode)
-Restore to iOS 4.3.3 (Mac: Hold Option when clicking restore, Windows: Hold Shift)
-After the restore is complete (if you don't get an error) then go to jailbreakme.com on the iPhone and jailbreak (no need for redsnow)
IF YOU GET ERROR 1 AFTER THE RESTORE:
The only way around this, from what i've personally tried is to use snow breeze on Windows, and create a custom firmware bundle (of 4.3.3) and put the phone into DFU mode again (above steps) and restore with the custom bundle.

Good luck, and if it's any consolation technically your phone isn't "bricked" to the point where you can't use it. It's practically impossible (doing what you did) to brick the hardware of the phone. It's software - and can always be fixed, one way or another!

i have all the same problems listed above, jailbroken 3gs now bricked and wont restore. was running 4.3.3. i have tried everything i can find, normal restore in itunes, using snowbreeze to create custom 4.3.3 and the list goes on. itunes normal restore gives me error 1015, and with custom 4.3.3 firmware i get error 3149. ive been at this for days now and i am ready to throw the thing out the window.
anyone able to please help me restore this phone so i can rejailbreak it and sell it before i kill it again? lol
thanks
