Hi All, I managed to get OS X 10.6 installed on my Packard Bell Easynote with a retail DVD using iBoot.
However, as soon as I run either 10.6.6 combo update or 10.6.7 combo update, when it gets to the part where it's moving items into place, the computer freezes and I get the grey/black screen with the powerbutton icon saying that I have to shut down the computer.
I have no way to boot back into OS X after this so I cannot access any kind of log to see what's causing this kernel panic.
Has anyone any ideas please? System: Packard Bell Easynote NM87GN010 - 3GB - 250GB 14" CPU: Intel Core i3 330M 2.13Ghz Graphics: Intel HD Graphics

Ok. This is like the 100th thread on Hackintosh. This forum IS NOT a Hackintosh forum. Go to InsanelyMac or InfinityMac and ask there. They will help with your problems.

First you want to set the boot parameter to include -v and then you want to make sure you have fakesmc.kext and NullCPUPowerManagement.kext as these kexts are probably the problem. Don't forget to set the permissions using "chown -R 0:0 filename" and "chmod -R 755 filename", you may need to use sudo if you are doing this from a previous install of mac os x.

Another suggestion from me is to do the following before the combo update: 1) Backup IOUSBxxxx files. There's two of them and without them you could have USB problems 2) Install a custom kernel if you have problems. I installed the 10.6.7 combo from a retail SL disk and I backed up the 2 kexts in step 1 and I installed the legacy kernel for 10.6.7 and it is running perfectly.

HI thanks for your help it's very appreciated. However, I am not quite sure how to actually do all of this? After I have installed 10.6 how do I install a legacy kernel and do I do this prior to the 10.7 upgrade? Also, one of the other guys on here mentioned making sure I have fakesmc.kext and NullCPUPowerManagement.kext and to set the permissions using "chown -R 0:0 filename" and "chmod -R 755 filename. How do I actually do all of this? Thanks again 'MUGENFOX'

In your first post, you said something about having it working. Get back to that. Reply when you have a working Mac. As for explaining to you how to do it, I won't do that. Go to InsanelyMac or some equivalent and ask them. If they don't help you withing 2-3 days. PM me and I'll help you get a working Mac. And remember to be patient. Took me 14 days exactly to set mine up perfectly but now it runs exactly like a real Mac so I think it's worth it.

Hey buddy I already tried InsanelyMac and got not help, it seems like people are too quick to be unhelpful, either that or they don't even reply to my posts.. I currently have 10.6.0 installed as a fresh install again but I daren't update as I keep getting the kernel panics each time I try!

Go on InsanelyMac and click search. In the Member Name area, type in MugenFox and you will see some of my posts. Look for a thread that I made which helped me upgrade.
