Ok so I am running OSx86 with a dual boot of Windows 7 on my PC and it runs great. The problem is with my friend's PC and this is what I would like to ask you guys. He has an integrated Radeon HD4200 which has absolutely no support for OS X. My questionis which is the cheapest and most compatible 256MB card out there that he can buy? I have found these 2 and I am considering them http://www.amazon.com/MSI-Geforce-8400G ... 722&sr=1-1 and http://www.amazon.com/Sparkle-8400GS-64 ... 842&sr=1-3
Any help is appreciated and he is looking for 3 things: compatible with OS X 10.6.7, runs QE/CI, costs at most $35 USD

To be honest, before buying a card which is worse than your current one, have a look for a couple of custom kexts. When I did OSX86, I had to mod some x1600 kexts for my x1650. Not a fun task but heh, someone has to make them.

Well the thing is that all of these cards are actually equal to the one he has right now and I have looked into this kext modding thing but I have two obstacles: 1) I am a complete n00b when it comes to writing/modding kexts and 2) There is no card that is similar or has the same base as this one that works under OSx86 Other than that, I keep reading that the 8400GS supports QE/CI and will run great.

Ok. Now I have another question. Theoretically, there shouldn't be any difference between the Twintech 8400GS, the MSI 8400GS, and the Sparkle 8400GS. Does this mean I can buy either one and use the same kexts/settings? Thanks a lot.

The major difference between them would be the Device IDs. This shouldn't be a problem if you use a layout injector like NVinject.kext, which is what I use on my laptop with an 8200M G.

Ok. I will tell my friend to buy the Sparkle one and I will set it up for him. If I understand this correctly, I install the injector and modify the device ID and bam, it should work.

The injector should automatically detect the Device ID, no modification needed.

Ok perfect. Now all I need is for him to buy it eventually,
Now that the video card is sorted out, what are the other specs (processor, audio controller, SATA/ACHI controller...)? Some onboard audio chipsets aren't supported under OSx86, or not that well.

No he has it running already, except for the video card so he's stuck at 1024x768. Otherwise, he has the same base PC as me except that his audio card is supported on default where as mine isn't.
