First off, I'm sorry if this is in the wrong section and if it is, then a mod can feel free to move it or delete it. I have been looking around the internet and I couldn't find a guide telling me exactly what I needed to know. I have Windows 7 x64 and I would like to install OSX 10.6.7 on top of that and preserve all my Windows 7 files. I would like to know if this is possible at all and how with a somewhat detailed n00bish guide. Thank you very much to anyone who can help me.

The easiest way is using Hazard OS X. However, you wouldn't be able to install and preserve any Windows 7 files because OS X will take the entire drive. If you need your files I would suggest finding another hard drive.

So theres no way I can keep my files? Can't I just partition the drive to HFS+ with some program?

No because in order to keep the files on the drive you would need to resize the partition and if that fails you loose everything. The Hacintosh installer disks also don't support partition resizing so you would need to use another program to do it.

So in that case can't I use this guide http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index. ... pic=129261 because from what I'm reading, people have had success with this. And also, if I install an older version, say 10.5.x and it works and I keep everything, can I upgrade to the latest one without any problems?

Ok. So I can follow that guide and install it on top of Windows 7. Thanks. And also, would 40GB be good for OSX? I just wanna use it just to have it not really for any big programs really.

It doesn't need to take the entire disk but the guide you found will not work because you don't have a separate partition made for OS X. If you try this there will be no way no resize the partition in the OS X installer and you won't be able to install.

Are you resizing the Windows partition? You'll have to do that if you used the entire disk for the Windows installation.

I know. I have a 750GB hard drive with about 170GB free. I'm resizing it and devoting about 50GB to OSX. I think that might work.

So I would just like to say that I have iATKOS S3 V2 running successfully on my PC. I would also like to ask help for one problem I have. Whenever I select Windows NTFS in the Chameleon bootloader, I get BOOTMGR is missing for Windows 7 x64. If anyone can tell me how to fix it, that would be great.

iBoot and MultiBeast from Tonymacx86 made 10.6.7 run with my old E2180 / ASRock box.
I am using seperate HDs for OSX (GUID partition table) and Windows (DOS partition table)
The iBoot CD can be used to try if your PC will boot from it. If it does it is likely possible to install OSX.

Needs to restore bootloader. Google restoring bootloader from the Win 7 cd. I know the Recovery Console is gone, but there is some new trick you can do with the 7 cd.

The very same thing happened when I tried to triple boot OS X, 7, and Ubuntu (on a macbook, however, but the same effect nonetheless). There are a few commands to issue that should fix the bootloader issue. Not sure if Chameleon will recognize it afterwards. I've never had a hackintoshed comp.

I got it working a week ago. Install iATKOS S3 V2. Choose Chameleon RC4. Boot into Mac and see if it works. After that, pop in Windows disk. Set Windows partition as active and restore bootloader. Restart PC and boot from the icon that says System Reserved because the Windows bootloader is on a different partition then the system it self.

Here ya go.... ive done this before when EASYBCD stuffed up....

1. Grab yourself a Win 7 dvd can be any version. \
2. boot from it and after selecting language and that click "repair your computer" you may have to look for it, its not that obvious.
3. open a Command prompt windows go to command prompt and type this in without the quotes (") :
"bootrec /fixmbr"
press enter.

"bootrec /FixBoot"
press enter.

If you get errored you may have to use diskpart from the command line to set the partition as active then try the commands again.
use "diskpart /?" for commands list... its pretty straight forward, navigate to your windows partition using the methods it tells you (usually by numbers) then make it active...
need detail on that part just ask... more than happy to help... :D need my 10 contributing posts

then Restart.
and hopefully.....
Profit!
