Hello all,

As you know disk defragmenting has been going on all this week, and its finally finished. Has anyone noticed an increase in speed on the forum or FTP? Please answer the poll above :)

IMO, it was never slow before. Same as any other site for me.

Everything Microsoft!
neither are faster.

- Forum was always fast
- FTP is still at 1mb/s at max here.

Both are the same as before the defrag.

Offtopic Comment
Also during the defrag when it has heavily defragmenting , my sub-domain was always throwing error 500, when the server was so slow also in this forum throw error 500 almost all the time.

Slow disk response can cause error 500's. It shouldn't happen except on the hour now when the cron runs.

I agree with DjRob. Forum is always fast and from the ftp I'm getting ~1MB/s.

I think the forum is a lot slower. When it was defragmenting it was it's normal speed, now it is a lot slower.

I haven't tried the FTP yet, because it won't make a difference to me. I usually get 1.5 mb/s and that is also the max of my download speed.

The forum was at least 4x slower than it is now while defragmenting. What is the load time per page? I get 1-2 seconds max here now, where as before it was often 2-4 seconds.

Seems stupid, but it is faster again now.

The page is load from 2-4.5 seconds, but I some minutes ago, I think it was something like 4-8 seconds.

Maybe it was my computer, I have no idea (other sites were working fast enough so I don't think so).

Forum is faster for me I think but only by 0.somthing of a second it feels the slightest bit snappier if you know what I mean. Comparing before to after defrag.

Keep in mind that a lot of us are overseas in the US, so the speed of both will vary due to lots of variables in the mix.

Just wondering - what defragger did you use? Standard Windows defragger, or something that offers the ability to sort the files based on last access/other options?

I used PerfectDisk10 which does sort the files in a smart way for best performance. The program says drive access performance is up by 60% since the start of the defrag, so we'll see.

I think yes it is faster but I don't really know from before the defrag as I joined mid process.

Considering this forum software is overly 'heavy' it does a good job.

As for FTP I don't know no one will let me test it

You've got 80 posts, surely 10 of them are good enough?

Of the forums/sites, I visit, this one has always been noticeably the fastest. I have not noticed any improvement over that.

At first I didn't see any change, but the ftp download is twice as fast than before (~150 kbps to ~300kbps) in my case.
