Perfectly safe. I run this build on my physical PC and I've had no trouble whatsoever. Dualbooting between Win7 and Win8 and it just works, unlike the stuff that comes out of California

Let me blow Skynet's answer up using the Huge font size:

7955 requires hardware virtualization, even if it is x86.
So there you have it. That's why 7955 doesn't work in VMWare or Virtualbox.
Both VMware and VirtualBox support pass-through hardware virtualization (x64 OS guests also require it). The issue is that the CPU in the *laptop* may not support it (both Intel and AMD have some surprising holes in their CPU lineup when it comes to hardware virtualization - in Intel's case, two Celeron DualCores, specifically E3300 and E3400, support hardware virtualization, while most Pentium DualCores, and even some Core2Duos and Core2Quads (Q8200) do not), or, if it does, the OEM may have deliberately turned it off (Dell did exactly that with some laptops, as has HP and Lenovo). I upgraded my desktop two months ago from an E1200 (no hardware-virtualization support) to E3400 (which includes hardware-virtualization support). Other than that (and increased on-die cache) the only other change was the FSB multiplier (8x in ther E1200's case vs. 13x for the E3400). I was already running an x64 OS (7 Ultimate x64 with SP1); however, since then, I've been able to add several OSes that require hardware virtualization (such as eComStation 2.0 betas and the RTM) to my VM *stable*, even though they are not x64.
Intel did not make the same mistake twice - *all* second-generation Core i-series CPUs support hardware virtualization (from i7 down to i3).
A leetle something we may have forgotten: While XPMode in Windows 7 (Professional/Enterprise/Ultimate) no longer *requires* hardware virtualization support, it can indeed leverage it. The patch that enables XPMode on Windows 7 without hardware virtualization will *not* install if hardware virtualization is detected (the Microsoft hardware-virtualization-detection tool is availabe from the Microsoft Windows VirtualPC page and is designed to be run standalone). If you are aware that your CPU supports haardware virtualization (Intel calls it VT-x, while AMD calls it AMD-V), but the detector doesn't pick it up, that means that it's turned off in the BIOS of the computer in question (another reason to keep your BIOS updated).

If you have Intel processor you can check with this tool http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_ ... s&lang=eng if your CPU supports hardware virtualization (second tab, "CPU Technologies") because it's mandatory for 7955.

I think i am just going to install it on a different hard drive then. I was thinking about virtual box until i read on the thread above and the problems. Doing a windows back up just incase it goes haywire.

Thats too bad that it requires hardware virtualization to run. I didn't even know about this when I bought my laptop processor or I would have looked for it. Sadly my C2D P7350 from 2008 does not support VT. I wish they would remove this requirement, Windows 7 emulates just fine in Virtualbox without VT.
Where was that cat, in C://Windows/System32/oobe/? I can't seem to find it. Plus a simple .png can't be a tracking feature if they are that easily censored

Don't use it in a VM. Even M1 is INCREDIBLY stable and super-fast on a physical PC. Of course, that should not be your primary PC just in case something DOES go wrong.

It's faster than 7850 (which itself is faster than 7 Ultimate) - however, the separate-drive (not separate partition) model is still the best bet (in fact, I disconnected my Windows 7 drive while doing my bare-metal install of 7955 - I only reconnected it once I had the audio drivers for my X-Fi XtremeGamer downloaded and installed (and had to reboot anyway)).
Unless software or drivers has OS-isms (still true of some driver utilities, such as IntelliType Pro for Microsoft's keyboards, for example), what works on Windows 7 will work on Windows 8 (drivers, applications, utilities, etc.) In fact, I have VLC playing some FLAC files from my music collection (my data files are on my Windows 7 drive; this includes my music-while-gaming collection).
In addition to VLC and Microsoft Office 2010 x32, add Kindle for PC to the list of compatible existing applications (Kindle for PC is huge, and not just because of my own collection of Kindle e-books, mostly fanfiction). Also, you can decidedly put virtual-drive applications and utilities on the endangered-software lists (7955 will mount ISOs, not just VHDs, directly - something not even Windows 7 SP1 can do); I used it to mount, then install, Office 2010 x32. There's therefore no reason it won't work with my large collection of games - most of which are in ISO format.
