Hello all,
Anyone from the UK will already be aware of this, but anyone else may not be.
On January 4th 2011, value added tax (VAT) will rise by 2.5% from 17.5% to 20%, for reasons that only our government see fit even though nobody wanted it... For this reason the server will also increase in cost very slightly.
Old Cost: £58.74 New Cost: £60.21
This isn't a lot, but I thought it would be best to inform everyone in case there are any questions.
We're now one of the highest tax paying countries in the world. Well done UK government. You have surprised us all yet again. And you wonder why people riot over tuition fees etc. when you put those up by 200% (yes, two HUNDRED percent) as well...

Consider paying in advance (e.g. three months). Obviously £180 out the bank may not be an option, but hey it's better than what I got landed with (£300 locked out my bank because I tried paying whilst the wikileaks hacktivists were taking down Visa and Mastercard :/)
This government can rot in hell as far as I'm concerned. Name one decent thing they've done right so far.

I was going to, but lack of funds prevented it. Anyway it's less than £2 difference for me. I didn't get prompted for my secure code when I paid tonight I don't think (don't remember entering it ), they must have taken it down temporarily.
I can't name one good thing, but I could name a dozen or more bad things. Governments are idiots, all of them.

I paid 6 months in advance on M1, and saved a whole £3.

Am I the only person in favour of the tuition fee changes in the UK? Disappointed at the lack of reform though. I'd have cut Uni places rather than raise fees. They just use Uni attendence to mask the poor state of secondary school education these days anyway.

Just to make my view clear, I support a reasonable raise in tuition fees. What has gone through isn't reasonable. The cuts and all don't help. It also doesn't help when I have friends who are part of http://www.socialistworker.co.uk/art.php?id=23125

I'd like to go to university when I'm old enough. For obvious reasons, I probably can't now. And I think that's the general view of people who would be wanting to go to university in the next few years.

You are aware the newer system is better for poorer students, so unless you're better off but with stingy parents, you'll get more support, not less. And as I said, Higher education is just being used to mask the poor state of secondary education. They're avoiding the fact people are coming out with substandard qualifications by throwing them into more schooling in University. And University is way too broad these days. So many people do non-subjects for their degree. And then there's not a standard way of teaching these subjects - a shocking amount of Universities do most to all of their *Computer Science* degrees in *JAVA*. Therefore, you get plenty of CS graduates unable to obtain a job because the only language they're competent in is Java, which isn't used half as much as it used to be, on account of the fact it's awful.</rant>
Also, UK Taxes are European-style, high. You think VAT at 20% is high, or income tax is unfair, you need to see the tax on fuel. You pay the price of the fuel + ~60p/litre fuel duty (which itself is usually more than the fuel), then you pay VAT on the fuel *and* VAT on the fuel duty.
Only the UK could invent a system where you're taxed on the tax you pay.

If I had the spare cash I'd be more than happy to donate to the running of BA, sorry money is tight, I think the UK is going in for another resession, personally I think this government is going to sink the UK just like Margaret Thatcher did, sell everything off then leg-it, leaving the country more in the red for the next goverment to try fix.
